Port in BahamasNestled between south Florida and the Caribbean Islands, and surrounded by beautiful turquoise waters, lies the Bahamas chain of 700 islands and cays.  At the northern tip of the Bahama Isles, is its “industrial mecca”, Grand Bahama Island, located just 55 miles of the coast of Florida.  It is a “ready to do business” centre and has the modern infrastructure required by local and international investors.

In July 1997, Hutchinson Port Holdings, one of the world’s largest container shipping conglomerates, constructed the deepest Container Port in the region, The Freeport Container Port (FCP), with a depth of 16m.   With a 2-mile approach from pilot station to the berth, this ideally located, 24 hour facility serves as a major world container transshipment hub between the Eastern Golf Coast of the United States, the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean, South America, and trade lanes to European, Mediterranean, The Far East and Australian destinations.  It also serves as a feeder hub to small Caribbean carriers.

A leader in security, FCP operates a state of the art secured facility with full surveillance and is equipped with a mobile radiation portal monitor which is capable of scanning up to 9,000 TEU’s in a 30 hour period.  FCP is a C-TPAT designated port and received the Mega Port Certification in 2005. It operates in accordance with ISPS standards and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officers are also resident on site.

FCP is a full service facility outfitted with the latest machinery and technology. Guaranteed berth times are available and the stevedoring tariffs are very attractive.

FCP Future terminal development includes the construction of 12 berths, the acquisition of 45 quay cranes and the capacity to facilitate up to 6.7 million TEUs.  At the completion of the future expansion, FCP will be among the top 5 largest container terminals in the Western Hemisphere.
